2006_07_20_foam-logo.jpgWe first stumbled across Howard Street's foam superstore online, and slowly have discovered what a great resource it is. And we have to say we agree with their assertion that "Most people don't realize how much foam is a part of their everyday lives." More than just a soft, hypo-allergenic substance upon which to rest your weary head, foam is good for insulation, sound-proofing, mattress topping, costume-making...yup, we all need foam.

2006_07_20_collage_tiny_con.jpgIn our case, we were looking to re-make some tired old foam cushions for a rocking chair we bought on eBay. We discovered that we could do the whole thing online (including cost estimation) by inputting measurements and grade preferences into FoamOrder.com's website. We then discovered that Foam Order would also create custom slip covers, using our fabric or their own limited selection. Only then did we realize that we could actually drop off the fabric in person, as FoamOrder is a local business with a showroom on Howard Street (check out the video tour).

We have to say, these folks are foam experts. Foam-obsessed even. They sell all make and manner of the stuff, from memory foam products to Tempur-Pedic mattresses, from natural latex crib mattresses to costume-making and DIY upholstery supplies.

And they've expanded to include down products, industrial foam products (like acoustic foam), and all kinds of furniture upon which to place your cushy purchases: platform beds, captain's beds, upholstery, kids' and teens' furniture, lighting.

One product we particularly like for small spaces is the tri-fold futon, a version of which, the Bingo Pouf, sells at DWR for a much higher price.

The website bursts at the seams with well-organized information about foam, so you too can become a foam expert before making an online purchase or stepping foot in one of the showrooms (Foam Order has another location in San Rafael.)

I bought the Edo Bed from them, and they were fantastic to work with.

Agree, they are fantastic to work with. I bought a PostureSense memory foam mattress from them. I spent a lot of time shopping around, and I personally prefer the FoamOrder's memory foam over Tempurpedic and DWR's Sonno. And it was the cheapest!

They went out of their way to vacuum-pack the mattress, making it possible to move the queen-size mattress up the tiny spiral staircase to my loft. It was also lots of fun to watch it re-inflate. Reminded me of shrinking marshmallows in elementary school science class.

I also bought a Low Sunset platform bed from them. Really low prices on modern-looking platform beds, although the quality is mediocre (made in China). Still, great value for the money.

YES I'VE PLACED MY ORDER OVER A WEEK AGO AND STILL HAVE NOT REC IT YET

I placed an order with them in April, which was supposed to take 12-14 weeks. After delivering the wrong item, not once, but twice, they now tell me it won't be here until November. Their customer service people are incompetent, rude, arrogant, and argumentative -- they actually blamed me for their inability to deliver the right item. I would strongly advise people to avoid Famorder.com at all costs.

I brought a tempurpedic mattress from them and it took them only about a week to deliver. Pretty Fast. I've no complaints with them.

They make their own really nice mattresses and also sell the line of Tempur-Pedics so you can try both in their store. Check em out.
