As Gulliver noted during his travels, *small* is a relative concept. It has a lot to do with geography.
We're wondering just how many of our readers live in spaces small enough to qualify for this April's annual Smallest, Coolest Apartment Contest, which means less than 650 square feet.
What's perceived as small here in San Francisco? In the greater Bay Area? In Portland and Seattle? What about in Missoula? Vancouver? Tokyo?

485 Square feet, in the greater Tel Aviv area. I'm leaving it in a few months to move to Munich, and have been putting off doing anything of value with it knowing that I'd be leaving.

Portland, Oregon - just moved into a duplex with my fiance, approximately 1400 square feet. My ex lives upstairs! Between the two households we have three kids, three adults, and a law office in a 2600 sq ft building. The kids have their own rooms for the first time ever.

I can't believe that my tiny eat-in kitchen does not qualify for the Smallest Coolest Kitchen contest! It's less than 90 square feet, and I've fit a table for four, a small library, beautiful art, comfortable seats, nice lighting, and a fully functional kitchen with full size stove, fridge, sink, good counter space, etc.! Why couldn't that be a contender?? Oh, and it has the most adorable little 1 foot by 1 1/2 foot window.... My entire apartment is in 560 sq ft, in Manhattan.

Yeah, the SCK upper size limit (65 sq ft) is awfuly small. I have an 88 sq ft kitchen and it certainly doesn't feel anything but small.

They should recognize two types of kitchen: under 65 sq. ft., and a 'potentially eat-in kitchen' category which would be under 90 sq. ft.
Certainly, there are plenty of 'small space' challenges in the latter!

We're in Seattle. Our house is 1440 SF, but my family (2 adults, two kids--6YO and 2YO) live in the upstairs and we rent out the basement. The four of us live in ~780 SF.
Definitely cozy, but it feels palatial compared to our last house (moved last spring) which was just shy of 700 SF. Layout makes a huge difference!
