Where does your garden grow? An AT:SF poll

Outdoor living, our June theme, feels like it should be the birthright of every Californian -- at least that's what we imagined before we moved to San Francisco and rented a yard-less, balcony-less flat. Many urbanites share our sad dilemma: a garden that consists of house plants and a stoop in place of a yard. Just how many of you are luckier?

I live much closer to Dolores Park than GGP.

I don't have any of these things: yard, garden, balcony, deck, porch, roof (that I have access to, anyway), stoop. And no, I don't even have a particularly sunny room in my apartment. :(

I have a stoop with nice brick planters on either side, and luckily we also have shared patio space, which for the time being is holding all my other plants!!

Luckily, we have plenty of street parking where we live so we use our dedicated parking space in front of a shared garage as a patio instead.

Actually, one of the things I liked about living in San Francisco was that the "outdoors" was maintained by my tax dollars rather than by my personal labor.

If I needed a jolt of sunshine, there was Union Square (equipped with espresso), the patio behind the Ferry Building (equipped with espresso), the quieter benches in bits of Pier 39 during off-season, Washington Park (near sources of espresso), or a ride on the J-Church up to Dolores Park (espresso conveniently available on the trip home).

Maintaining my own patio for those precious hours of optimum espresso drinking (pre-dawn, this time of year) is a lot more work.
