As apartment dwellers, we're always trying to find a way to squeeze the most out of every inch of space. That's why we love furniture that does double duty - an ottoman that can work as extra seating, a sofa that switches to a bed. But one of our favorite examples is the always-versatile, always-in style secretary.
With the lid closed it's got the storage capacity of a cabinet or bureau, flip the top out and it's a work space with about half the footprint of a conventional desk. Of course we fell in love with one of the pricier models (that beauty above is over $5,000 - dang), but Elle's top ten offers a great mix of high and low price points and vastly different styles, so you've got options. Any others you'd like to add?

My grandmother has a secretary desk I've always liked, but everyone keeps telling me it's a piece of cheap junk. Maybe they don't want me to have it? In any case, it's a style of desk I've coveted. It's like, I just don't understand the appeal of rolltop desks, but I think the secretary desk is a perfect all-around piece.

Wow, what a great collection.
I've got a totally different set listed on my blog. (I'm going to add a link back to this post.)
