Mustache Coffee Table at Sultana

5-23-08mustmain.jpgWe're usually more inclined to go the safe route and purchase geometric coffee and side tables, but this mustache-shaped coffee table at Sultana had us coming back for a second look. Maybe it's the slight similarity to Noguchi and Frankl, we don't know. Anyway, we see a table like this in the middle of a very large open floor plan (think loft living), preferably where you can see it from above (again, loft living!).

The table was designed in the USA in 1948 by Barzalay Furniture. Barzalay was a postwar L.A. manufacturer and early practitioner of "chunky organic modern." The price? $1,200 and available here.

I'm inclined to suggest one could relatively easily diy this - no routing, and legs made of boards - if one really wanted to.

Aside from being cool, that's a very practical shape. Lots of places to perch and peck away at a laptop.

I like it!
