It took some protracted staring to figure out just why we were so captivated by Studio Dinor's Round Slate Table.
The way it occupies volume in such a 2-D way reminds us of a house of cards, but it's more complicated than that. Maybe it's the unusual combination of curves and acute angles ... or maybe it's the visible zinc washers and nuts, which give it an industrial feel.
Or maybe it's the material. With her Slat Tables (round and straight), Bay Area designer Tasha Welch takes unabashed pleasure in humble Baltic Birch plywood, demonstrating that well-designed furniture needs good ideas and solid craftmanship more than fancy or rare materials.

Given the readily obtainable materials, this one is a shoo-in for DIY:
Start with a "flexy rack" -- click my name to search for it on google -- and turn on its side, then put a piece of glass on top. The only interesting part is determining what shape to cut the layers in.
