Button Plates by Kiki van Eijk

This is a design that would have been a little wan if it weren't for the great variety in style, size and finish of this mundane household object, as rendered into tableware.

Designer Kiki van Eijk was inspired by a box of her grandmother's buttons, and we think a dinner party with these plates would lend kind of a fairy tale, afternoon-in-the-attic feeling. Granted, we don't know how easy these would be to eat off of or clean, but that wouldn't stop us for too long.

The plates will be produced by Haans, and we for one hope that means availability stateside soon.

You're right, the variety makes it work. Reminds me of playing "button, button, who's got the button" on my great-grandmother's porch.

These are so practical, much better than eating off a zipper.
