CD Storage Unit as Cup Storage
Living Etc.

3.17.9 mugs and storage 1.jpgWe love collecting mismatched china pieces--specifically tea and coffee cups. We have ours out in the open, arranged nicely on a simple white shelf in our kitchen. We love the idea, though, of "framing" our collection like we saw in Living Etc. while browsing through their galleries this morning!

Living Etc. featured an image with this CD Storage Unit comes from Heal's that also comes in gold. At about $184, we think this might be ripe for an IKEA hack or DIY project! It seems to just be a simple CD storage shelf with an ornate frame moulding around it. Either way, this is a gorgeous way to display some of our beautiful finds. The black shelf really makes white porcelain pop--especially with a white frame.

Some of our favorite coffee mugs and teacups are vintage and thrift store finds. We've also found some great new pieces to add to our collection. Anthropologie is our favorite resource, as you can buy one at a time. Some of our favorites:

The Duo from Target is a gorgeous clear glass double-walled mug that we think is gorgeous. 3.17.9 mugs and storage 7.jpg

Ikea always has clean, simple options for classic teacups and mugs--for great prices. Our favorite is the 365+.

Rose and Radish's Compagnie Shadow Tea Cup and Saucer Set are gorgeous, and when put together reveal the image of a tree across the saucers.

I like this. Seems like a good reuse of the trillions of CD cabinets now rendered useless by the ipod.

Yes!
I recently returned from years overseas, and was wandering through Ikea looking for a good shelf to display my Japanese dishes, and as soon as I saw a tall black CD shelf, I was struck by how perfect it was! It looks great in the corner of my living room, and displays the dishes perfectly!

This just in...Home Decorators Collection will offer a similar CD Storage Frame in their next catalog. It's available online now in two sizes and two colours. It's not cheap, but it's less expensive than it is at Heal's and there may be some online coupon codes out there....
