Drapeless Round Table Cloths

6-8-roundtablecloth1.jpgOne of our favorite bloggers, Maryam in Marrakesh, is of the "if you can't find what you want, don't settle for less, design it yourself" school. The latest example? Colorful custom-made round table cloths.

Maryam wanted table cloths for her vintage Saarinen tables, but didn't want to hide their stems. We think her solution is pretty brilliant, not to mention just plain great looking, and are surprised we haven't seen anything like it before.

Wow, what a great idea. And yeah, like so many other great ideas, it seems so obvious... now that someone else has thought of it.

Brilliant! These need their own name. They're like a cross between tablecloths and placemats. Tablemats?

I have several (my husband will tell you that's an understatement) of these for our Saarinen table.
It makes everything feel so tied together and you can add a pop of color on a whim!

You can buy round ones of any size. Like here, there are elasticized:

Those are more often seen for outdoor living, parties, wedding receptions and the like. So they don't fly away or flap around. Click on Fabric Samples to see the many colors.

You can have them make one for you in any of their colors without a drop. I tried out this black/white damask:

For the 36", 42", 47" table, it's $36.10 per tablecloth.

You can also use that service to create your own table toppers to mix and match with tablecloths.

Ah, you guys are swell. So glad you like them:) They were very fun to make! I made some table cloths (tablemats!) in linen and some in a heavy canvas. I also made coordinating napkins in linen with the handmade passementarie buttons.

The chairs are very comfortable with a nice contour for the back. I liked the ventilation since Marrakech is an oasis in the desert.

Not a fan. Makes the tabletop look too busy. Would like to see at least a little overhang.

Nice idea! Love the color combo of the deep teal chairs and the chartreuse and darker green tablemats.

Not to crazy about the flatware though. I am finicky about the handles and how they feel in one's hand and have to be comfortable to hold, especially for the knives since they are to be held to cut.
