Oliver Hemming's Nio Series

nioset4-12.jpgOliver Hemming’s award-winning Nio tea and coffee series is a piece of art in itself.

The British designer and silversmith started making items including espresso makers, milk jugs, spice grinders, and clocks in 1982. He says, "When it comes to design, I'm definitely a purist. Things have to excite me, and they have to be well made. So many products these days are badly made, and there's really no excuse for it, especially when it's often cheaper to make things well." We think that’s a great philosophy.

The pieces can be found at fitzsu.com and proleno.com. SFMOMA sells the tea service.

In Asia, tea is a very special part of the day and worthy of taking the time to savor. Who says that it can't be a true piece of art as well!?
