Urchin Bowl

1-7-08-sf-urchin-bowl.jpg

We find the prickliness of the Urchin Bowl a sassy in-your-face to all the cutesy bowls out there, the ones that beg to be cupped in two hands whilst steam from a hot beverage wafts into the face of the person holding it.

Not that we wouldn't hold it, but we're interested in how the feel in hands would be stimulating, rather than soothing. And soothing could still happen, using the bowls as votives or to hold small objects.

Designed by Heather Knight at Element Clay Studio in Asheville, North Carolina, the bowls are inspired by the sea creature and made of a durable, lightweight porcelain, glazed on the inside but not on the outside.

Yeah, but notice how they're pictured as candle-holders, not as bowls.

I like these, the texture is interesting...but I agree I would be more inclined to use them as a decorative item...
