Less precious than porcelain and also more lively, these colorful patterned plates and chargers riff modern on traditional themes like the royal crest. Perhaps it's only fitting that the patterns are emblazoned on a highly democratic material: melamine. Someone at the Savannah College of Art and Design, which incubates Working Class Studio, must have decided it was time for the student product design group to live up to its name.
On a more practical note, melamine is great for outdoor dining: hard to break, easy to carry and clean.
Available at the SFMOMA store, for $8 - $15 apiece.
Yay! I got a set of the green ones for my birthday. They're super cute, and practical. I take them to work in my lunch bag. I don't have to worry about them breaking inside my purse, and I get to eat off a (really attractive) plate, which makes my half-hour meal break feel a little more luxurious.

Those are surprisingly nice looking.
It would be nice if they had them in other-than-plastic too...but even still, those are really cool looking.
But that seems a really steep price for a single plastic plate. I guess you're paying for the art.
Are they dishwasher safe?
