The Gallery: Daniel Anthony St. George 2nd

Introducing Daniel Anthony St. George 2nd, who doesn't seem to play well with the other children but has figured out a way to turn that misfortune into art.

The name of his current San Francisco show, Burning Bridges, says it all. And Daniel says the rest: "I feel like I have lost so many friends and relationships over the last few years due to money, disagreements over ideals, new love interests and just drifting apart. This is my expression of these moments..."

Daniel's autobiographical compositions are a diary of sorts, chronicling his struggles with other people, a personal mythology of ham-handed and block-headed characters, dense writing, and cryptic symbols.

As personal as Daniel's work is, we can all relate to the moments of exquisitely painful misunderstanding he depicts. Relationship angst and interpersonal paranoia are universal emotional experiences.

Daniel starts with tea-stained scorched paper and, working with graphite and a delicate hand, peoples his accidental landscapes with contorted figures and vibrant, bleeding watercolors. The end reult of this process is both beautiful and unsettling.

The Stussy SF store/gallery is on Haight near Masonic. The show also includes a limited edition t-shirt and 32-page zine.

Daniel is currently living in Brooklyn and can be contacted through his website.
