Once upon a time, Portland artist Erik Railton's work graced the walls of cafes and restaurants all over town. Now, his paintings can be found in galleries as far away as New York. His success is especially impressive when you consider that, aside from an introductory course at Clackamas Community College, Railton is self-taught.
His artist statement offers insight into his inspiration: "Painting for me brings back good memories. My painting reflects different times of my life and the memories associated with them. Growing up in the northwest I found myself spending time outside in nature. The thought of those times defines my life and I find myself comforted when I reflect on them."
