Little Rock, Ark.-born San Francisco printmaker Jill Storthz is one of our favorite local gems. There's a quiet sophistication about her deft abstract woodcuts, which harken to both mid-century and modern day abstract expressionism.

Each of Jill's woodcut prints are created from a single piece of Shina (Japanese basswood) using a reductive carving method eerily called "suicide cut." She says of her woodcuts: "Mark making is very important to me. Even though drawing each line is very subconscious, each cut is deliberately considered."
