The Gallery: Rachel Ann Austin

We first saw Rachel Ann Austin's work on Etsy.

We especially like the Portland-based artist's Aerial Farm watercolor series, which was inspired after a plane flight. The crop circles and other strange and beautiful shapes of the land below became abstract simple shapes and grids.

Austin's mixed media Paper Airplane series is done with maps and layers of transparent paint on wood panels. The works are each named after a location from the map used in the painting.

Austin also creates oil paintings inspired by simple lanterns against colorful walls.

You can see more of Austin's art in her Etsy shop. Or, if you're in Oregon, check out her Aerial Farm watercolors at the Mary Lou Zeek Gallery in Salem or the 9th Street Gallery in Newport. Her mixed media paintings are at Cheeky Boutique in Portland's The Pearl District.

More information about upcoming shows is here.
