Shiso mama is an art teacher and museum educator who started making a collage each day last May. She says, I started the collage-a-day project because I was feeling so consumed by my life with baby, and rather unable to focus any creative energy on myself. Whenever I tried to make something, it felt like I had to make something significant or important because time was so precious. But I started to think about Chris Ofili and a collection of gouaches that he had painted, to warm up and start his day in the studio. They were gorgeous and free and joyous, and I started thinking about making something every day, a little stress-free exercise to get myself more in the mind of a real artist. It's one of the best things I've ever done, and probably the closest I've ever felt to being a "real" artist. When shiso mama made her 100th collage, she wrote about the process of making them here.
