The Tile File: Silkscreened Tiles from SuTurno

51309tiles1.jpgOne thing I've got in common with the previous owners of my house is that I'm crazy about tile. Unfortunately I'm not so crazy about the particular tiles they chose to install all over the place—staircases, kitchen, bathrooms. Given the expense and hassle of re-tiling, we probably won't be replacing them anytime soon. But just in case I win the lottery one of these days, I'm keeping a file of tiles I love. These beauties from the Spanish studio SuTurno are my latest obsession...

The tiles are cakes of mud with a nice natural matte finish; geometric patterns are silkscreened onto the tiles before they are baked. Different orientations of the shapes allow for varied compositions. Depending on how you choose to arrange the tiles, the pattern can be uniform or more haphazard.

SuTurno also designs textiles for fashion and home goods lines, including Zara Home. They've done several collections of cushions under their own label too, but it looks like the only way to find them is to contact SuTurno directly.

I like tiles also.....but I'm not sure if I really like these since they look scuffed up.
