The Upcycled Cluster Lamp, Part Deux

Domestic Construction's tea cup cluster lamp was a big hit last year across the blogosphere and among Etsy devotees. Now the design duo's come up with a new upcycled cluster lamp, this time using gorgeously worndown antique mason jars...

Like the famous tea cup lamps, the mason jar lights can be hung individually, as pendant lamps, or in a group for a more dramatic effect. Upon request, Domestic Construction also makes custom chandeliers from their creations!

If, like we do, you collect old jars without really trying, these lamps may offer some DIY inspiration. Has anyone tried to make a hanging light like this from a vintage jar?

I'm not always the biggest cluster lamp fan but I have to admit, I LOVE the idea of the mason jars... Trip to Fishs Eddy to try and reconstruct the above example? I think so!

i like the idea, but i feel like i'm going to tap it, and they'll all break. then again, i'm 5 feet tall so that's unlikely. :) i'm off to buy one of those plate clocks now...

Nice concept, but I'd want them hardwired to the ceiling (which is an option noted on the linked site) to avoid those extremely unsightly cords going off to who-knows-where.

And, does it really require three electric cords running across the ceiling? From a technical standpoint, I wonder if these small enclosed bottles will create too much heat, causing the sockets and bulbs to blow.

From an aesthetic standpoint, it's too urban-hillbilly. Old mason jars have their charms and uses, but making lamps out of them seems like bohemian posing.

Plus, all the anthropologie stores did this a year or so ago - so even though i love me some old mason jars it feels too copycat.

As an added bonus, the mason jar version evokes memories of fireflies and spending time in the outdoors. I see that you can purchase the cord/bulb sets at places like these: http://www.nationalartcraft.com/subcategory.asp?gid=1&cid=1&scid=23 And I would probably stick with a lower wattage to avoid any worries about overheating.
