Color Changing Tiles

01.12.10 tiles 1.jpgYes, these tiles change color according to the temperature making your shower a veritable mood ring! We can see so many ways that this kind of a decor element can be taken too far--into the realm of tacky and awful. But done right, with the most sparing of hands, we could see some really interesting applications!

01.12.10 tiles 2.jpgNot to mention the fact that, regardless of whether you would put these up in your home in some capacity, they are kind of cool in their own right! Moving Color creates an entire line of color changing glass tiles, many in some interesting textures. We'll admit, a lot of the images they have on their site wouldn't necessarily make it in to our home, but we think that done in moderation these tiles could add a bit of surprise in the bathroom or kitchen!

I'm willing to say that maybe, someplace, these would work. But that shower looks like something out of a horror movie, or at least one of those hgtv/tlc cleaning shows. too creepy.

Oh, lord, that shower is scary!

Perhaps as one line around the shower? I can see that being cool. What about ouside, as part of a mosaic, or interspersed with plain tiles? I know it gets hot enough here in summer that it would be cool to see them changing.

I'd waste so much water trying to create different patterns...!

I think it would be great for a fireplace surround.

I want!!! Haha, it would be hilarious to let houseguests discover this for themselves when they hop in to take a shower :)

The website say they are $29 per piece. 4"x4"

Too bad because I could do some neat things with these.

I love these, and would loved to have used them in my shower, but they were a little out of my price range. I still think about how cool it would be to watch them change. Kind of like Hypercolor for the homeowner set

They'd be great for a backsplash.

When I last shared a kitchen, it wasn't uncommon to find one of the gas rings on the hob not quite turned off and what little flame was present was barely visible. Now, if the tiles above that hob had been heat sensitive and changed colour whenever a flame had been left burning, it would've made it easier to discover than coming within a hair's breadth of setting a sleeve alight while putting a pan on the next ring!

Oh, or what about a sauna/ steamroom type place for 'home body'? That's not some kind of derrogatory comment about home body's personal hygiene, I'm just suggesting a way of enjoying the tiles while using less water. You could even draw on the tiled surfaces with ice cubes....?
