apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Graphic Concrete

9.24.9 graphic concrete 1.jpgWe have always been fond of concrete as a building material, and now we have reason to be even more partial to it. We loved the concrete art that was blogged about on Apartment Therapy last year, but this seems a bit more easily incorporated into more industrial settings as well as the home...

9.24.9 graphic concrete 2.jpgGraphic Concrete, a company out of Helskinki, uses a patented technology to add a pattern to the surface of any concrete plane. The patterns and designs that they offer are very modern, and we think there are a multitude of applications that this technique would look stunning on. Custom designs are also available--which means there is no end to the creativity that can be applied to something that would otherwise be an ordinary surface!

I love what people are doing with art printed on unusual surfaces...this concrete is cool. I've also seen fine art giclee printing done on polished aluminum sheets and it is pretty fab.

Home applications could work. Imagine designs on poured concrete floors/counters/sidewalks. It would be sort of awesome. I wonder if sealing is possible after etching it? I believe that poured concrete counters and floors need to be sealed before being used.

The concrete concept is neat, but the face graphics are a little too Han Solo in carbonite for my tastes.

I definately like, but I'm sure it's out of my price range.
