Why: Because it's understated and neutral, but the "ribbing" effect with half rounds makes this bathroom pop. An easy-to-duplicate style that we think is a modern classic.

Too much nook and cranny for a bathroom in my opinion.

not a fan. it looks unfinished - as if it's awaiting another layer of tiles or something in order to create one whole smooth wall.

"modern classic"? Seriously, AT? To me, it looks like a previous tenant's decor experiment gone wrong, and the type of inherited permanently-installed decor that we try to play down or downright undo here at AT through the countless "good questions" posts...

Might look better if the tile work was better done.
Reminds me of an old YMCA shower room.

i don't like it here
but in chocolate or cobalt blue as a backsplash
or a funky alternative to paneling or paint for what-is-the-section-under-a-chair-railed-called?
i think that would be cool.

I agree with some of the others. This just simply looks strange, and not in a good way.

Throw a stainless steel table in there and it's a classy kitchen extension for a butcher!
It is not however, a classy residential bathroom.

Eh. I think the problem is that it looks like there should be urinals between the ribs...

I think it's the floor, not the walls, giving you that YMCA feeling.
I kind of like it -- the look reminds me a little of bamboo, and I think it could be improved by the addition of a large tropical plant and green accessories (like towels), or maybe a folding screen or Asian-inspired shelf unit, or a spa-style hardwood bath mat...I think it could work, it's just that the room itself's a little plain.

I like that it is a spin on something traditional, but I just don't think it works...

Not for me. Maybe it's the beige-ness of it all? I think it looks kinda grungy.
Like Saya said, I think I might like it if they had used contrasting colors to make the detail really pop and look more intentional.

Looks like those visible shelf supports on garage shelves... you know, the metal ones with holes that ruin the look of the wall.
I'd probably have to knock this out and retile if this was in my bath.

It's like board and batten, for tile.
