TileVault: Small Blue Squares

9-25-bluetile.jpgWhat: Large fields of small blue squares
Where: Marin Civic Center, San Rafael
When: Photos taken Wednesday, September 24, 2008
Why: Looking past the rather industrial overall room, we love the way the large tone on tone fields of small tiles work, and think this could be great inspiration for a home bathroom.

Sure, if you want your bathroom to look like the high-school girl's room or a rest stop on the interstate, it's great inspiration.

Do they sell those air-blasting hand dryers for residential use?

The post clearly says, "... looking past the industrial overall room..."

The photo was meant to highlight the use of tone-on-tone tiling and its effectiveness and I thought it was very successful at that.

Please read the post carefully before spewing sarcasm.

oh what a cleaning nightmare! I think, even looking past the industrial overall room, it's just a boring look. You need SOME contrast in a room....or at least *I* think you do. I think even in a home setting, as well, it would still have a very industrial feel..or "bathroom in a small office" feel. No, I just don't see it...

This looks too cold and institutional for the home. Plus I agree with amiencc that it would be a cleaning nightmare.

Deepa,

Whoa, you really need to lighten up. I DID read the post. I still don't like it, for the same reasons as amiencc.

I would never insult anyone's home decor, but come on--this is probably 40-year-old tile in a civic setting. Not everyone agrees with everyone else's taste or choice in subject matter. Please.

A friend of mine has a bathroom tiled similarly. It is indeed a cleaning nightmare, and after three years, it started to look really gross.

can we still wright dirty things between the tiles---that would give it a more personal persona!
Or we could stick our fruit stickers on each tile for that really homey look ! :-))
