TileVault: The Bathroom at Osha Thai Restaurant

8-18-tilevault1.jpgWhat: Crazy photo-real river-rock ceramic tiles
Where: Valencia Street
When: Friday, August 15th 2008 at 6:15 pm
Why: We've long-since dubbed this place "techno-thai" for its slick but slightly 90's-style decor and music. We've always loved the wire Bertoia-ish chairs (and the food!) but the bathroom tiles really take the cake....

8-18-tilevault2.jpgWe can't say we'd ever pick these out for our own home, but we think they fit in perfectly with the neo-modern feel of Osha. No matter how many times we've been there, they make us gasp and giggle on every visit. And really, how many other bathrooms can you say that about?!

This is a pretty new technology where the image is actually "painted" on with porcelain and fired.

It's pretty pricey.

I've noticed a lot of Asian businesses in Chicago really "glamming" up their stores with tons of mosaic tile, marble, exotic veneers, etc.

Thank you for this information. I saw this tile installed on an HGTV program a couple of years ago and have wanted to get this ever since. In the right setting it looks wonderful.

Looks like tile that that hids the dirt very very well---I would not eat in any food place that uses such tile. I'm surprised that fast food joints don't use this stuff.
Also makes me kind of dizzy looking at it---it's a trend that everyone will say a few years from now---what the hell were we thinking of!!!
