TileVault: Tiled Sink Nook

elbow_bathroomsink.jpg
  • What: Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolates.
  • Where: 401 Hayes Street, San Francisco.
  • When: March 3, 2008.
  • Why: Although we were sad to see Friend close, we were excited that the Hayes Valley corner spot was replaced with a chocolatier. The month-old Christopher Elbow shop is a modern space, with deep chocolate (of course!) and red accents. We love the simple yet eye-catching use of small, red glass tiles in the restroom — especially in the nook where the sink lives.

The walls of the room were done up with a band of the same tiles (and same pink grout). We like how the iridescent pieces of glass are set against a subtle patterned wallpaper.

And, in case you're wondering: Our favorite Christopher Elbow sweet is the Caramel with Fleur de Sel. Yum.

Anyone know where I can get these sconces?

I thought the sink area was an interesting idea (and the chocolates are lovely), but when you're actually there, the glass shelves aren't hung well. There are large gaps of cut wall around them and it kind of ruins the clean lines. Not a big problem, but maybe they should fix it.
