Roundup: Owls on AT and Beyond

What is it with owls these days? They're everywhere. And as much as we'd like to pretend that we're so cool that we're over it already, we're not. The big eyes. The ear tufts.

Owls are also making conspicuous appearances in your homes. Case-in-point AT: Chicago 2007 Smallest Coolest Contest semifinalists Becky and Chris' Nice to Come Home To (above).

Design Public also has a new owl wall decal (yes, owls + decals = design trend overload). Get it here.

an in-home side effect to Pottermania...personally I'd rather just read the books than have a cartooney owl lamp staring at me while I'm trying to sleep

The lamp is adorable but it wouldn't work in my home.

The owl has an interesting representational history. It was associated with the Greek goddess Athena, as a representation of pure wisdom and vigilance (but with a gloomy negative connotation), and I believe it had the same representational character in the Native American and Norse cultures. In mysticism, an owl flying by is a sign that death is coming.

Owls are also found in ceramic form at West Elm and in a limited edition lamp by designer Rick Lee.

I just can't stomach owl stuff. I guess that's probably due to the fact I had an aunt (since deceased) that collected all of that kitschy owl stuff. She had TONS of owls. And we didn't get along very well... So maybe I just have an unnatural aversion to it.

Anyway, if you really want to find owl stuff, there are still plenty of vintage pieces out there to be had cheap! Check antique malls, thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales.

I dislike real owls since one at the Bronx zoo repeatedly attacked my three-year-old daughter. Fortunately he was behind a plate glass window, but it was an unnerving experience -- he kept coming at her again and again, smashing himself against the window.

Nevertheless I do have a little carving of a wooden owl above my kitchen stove to remind me to soak my beans the night before.

Hello, owls. Goodbye, deer (Finally!). I've had it with the ubiquitous deer and antlers.

Hi, everyone. Those images looks very cute, interesting. Besides those, many other owl products are available, such as owl gifts, handmade greeting cards, prints, crafts, home decorations, toys, apparel, jewelry...so many for us to
select if we want. Personally, I plan to give a owl toy for my little daughter as a xmas gift. She's a fan of Harry Potter and loves everything in it, of course includes a owl. One day I found a Snow Owl toy at
http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=73183 The animal is soft and the fur is very soft. It's so lovely, I fell
in love. Then it occurs my mind. I believe it is a wonderful surprise for my little girl. LOL...
