Once a year we load up the car with old clothes, books, appliances and other donatable goods and drive down to Goodwill. But recently we noticed a postcard advertising the charitable goods pickup service of a local church. How great does that sound, especially at spring cleaning time of year?
The postcard was propped up against our building's mailboxes and addressed to one of our neighbors, so we didn't filch it, but we figure there must be loads of services like this, sponsored by various churches, temples, community centers and charities.
We'd like to compile a list, so if you've made use of a service like this, let us know, and we'll list it here.
To get things started:
• Sunset Scavenger: will pick up two bulky items a year for free, per residence, in SF
• Paper Rush recycling: will pick up hard cover books at your home for a fee, in SF
• Building Futures with Women and Children: will pick up childrens' clothing and toys in East Bay; call for details
• Computer Recycling Project: will pick up both Macs & PCs throughout the Bay Area.
• Goodwill Industries of Redwood Empire: Will pick up computers in Ukiah, Napa, Santa Rosa and Sonoma
• The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County: will pick up clothing, toys, school supplies and medical equipment, in Alameda county
oooh, there is one that comes to my house once a quarter or so to pick up stuff. You just leave it on the sidewalk with a yellow tag and off it goes. The only downside: they never take my books! I have to drive those to the Goodwill myself.
I can't remember the name of the organization thought! I will look out for the next card and let you know when i find it :)
We have lot's and lot's of clothes to donate and are interested in some charity that would come and pick-up those goods. we also had one of those postcards advertising pick-ups but can't find it anymore. If somebody knows the name please let me know.
Thank you,
Anita
