For some reason, glasses are on our mind. You know, the really good type of glasses that have the right feel, the right weight, and can be used for all sorts of drinks, not just wine, not just water. . .
While the Duralex gets our vote, we're wondering about your favorites. If your kitchen only had room for one type of glass, what would it be? Please comment away.
I received some of the Reidel stemless wine glasses as a gift and they were too delicate for casual use. For day to day use - I prefer to use the double old fashioned impression glasses from C&B. Comfy to drink out of and durable and only $3 a glass!

I first got a set years ago from Target, and over the years have broken so many, I almost switched to an altogether new style, until I saw that they have them for 2 and 3 bucks at C&B. We use the large and small ones for everything.
Pub glasses, the kind with a delicate bulge to keep the glass from slipping between your fingers. Mmm, lurvely.
I have a small obsession with finding the perfect drinking glass. Currently, we use beakers for our everyday all-purpose glass. They are small so they are perfect for water, cocktails, wine, etc. They are a nice weight in the hand and very durable - they hold up to the dishwasher without any clouding and don't scratch as easily as other glasses.
It also makes it easy to mix a perfect cocktail because the measurements are right there on the glass. And I can satisfy my OCD and everyone has an even pour.
Try economy restaurant supply on 7th. open saturdays. They sell among other things, restaurant stock water glasses which are of necessity durable (for restaurant use) and quite modern/stylish.

A few months back, I finally purchased new drinking glasses. I needed something simple and elegent, yet versatile enough to go from juice in the morning, water with a seven course meal, or fun cocktails. I stumbled on these pedestal glasses from IKEA, that don't appear on the website. The closest are these:

Difference being, they are actual water glasses, not wine. They are perfect! I get comments on them all the time, and they appear much more expensive than they really are. Additionally, they are only $7.99 for a pack of six, so it's not the end of the world if one breaks.

Although I have used the wonderful Picardie tumblers for years, I find that they sometimes get stuck together if I stack them. Recently I came across the La Rochere Eiffel Tower tumblers(set of 6) and wine glasses at Sur La Table. I like them because they are crystal clear, a solid feel and a good looking base. If you aren't into Paris, they also make bees, butterflies and Fleur de Lys.
Ditto on the Crate & Barrel "Impressions" glasses. They have the perfect weight and feel. The 12oz size goes with everything.
Duralex picardie all the way! I have a set of 24 (6 in each size) for Williams Sonoma. They don't break, you can serve hot and cold in them (great for lattes) and the small tumblers are great for wine.
They won't stick together if you stack them when they're dry.
