Teak Shower Caddy

3-21-caddy.jpg

When we spotted this Teak Shower Caddy, we were reminded of the time we bought a metal shower organizer at Target and it rusted within days.

Teak is perfect for the bathroom because it's resistant to water and mildew, it's durable -- and it won't rust. This practical organizer has two shelves, two holes for razors, four pegs for washcloths and other bathing accoutrements, and a bottom shelf that's a self-draining soap tray.

Very nice--except solutions says nothing about the teak being sustainably harvested nor the labor being particularly fair trade. The destruction of old growth teak forests in the item's native Indonesia is a big problem. When I clicked "the facts" and "why we loved it!" I was really hoping for that kind of helpful, important data. At $90 a pop I expect a little more care in my bath accessories.

I second Saheli's thoughts, no one should buy teak without checking the sustainability..

I agree about sustainability and, despite the beauty of this shower caddy, I'm having to treat my outdoor teak furniture for mold which really surprised me (it needs to be treated, and then oiled, seasonally not just every few years as recommended). It hasn't even been a wet rainy season! So while it's resistant, it's not immune, and I'd be Really Suspicious about using teak inside the wettest area of my bathroom.
