Buying Vintage Luggage on Craigslist

8-27-08luggage.jpgWe're kind of obsessed with good looking vintage luggage. In fact, we don't think that (in our adult life) we've ever purchased new luggage, always vintage. We especially like that if we're not using them for traveling we can use them as home decor (hello, side table!).

We find them at garage sales (the Marina has the best ones for luggage) and at fleas (especially Alameda). Sparked by yesterday's Craigslist Etiquette post, we decided to take a look at the site and see what kind of luggage people are selling. We were pretty surprised by how much there was! Aside from keywords like 'Samsonite' and 'vintage luggage,' are there any other keywords you can recommend for finding good vintage luggage on Craigslist?

I found a couple by searching "vintage suitcase", "vintage trunk" and "steamer trunk".

Good Luck!

I've bought a bunch of amazing suitcases on Ebay. I have them all displayed on a shelf over my bedroom door. perfect way to store stuff. Make sure tho you inquire about the inside of the case before buying (no smells). Very important if you plan on storing linens or clothes...

I've never really gotten this as a decor idea. Other people really seem to love it though. I think it looks very cluttered and rather like you have a guest who forgot to put their suitcases away. To each his own, though!

I love the look, it looks like your ready to jet off to exotic places at any minute... but i've always found them smelly.

I bet some decent fabrese/sachets would help out.

i just don't have the floorspace in my current sitch.
