
Bainbridge Island isn't a randomly chosen location; the lushly forested locale was famously home to a Japanese-American agricultural community in the first half of the 20th century, and the setting of David Guterson's book Snow Falling On Cedars, about the forceable relocation of said community during WWII.

The Fuurin-Oka is surprisingly true to the traditional ryokan in all of it's details, from the tatami room with display nooks to the deep soaking bath (ofuro). More information about Fuurin-Oka can be found on their website, here.
Their webpage says they're no longer operating the futon and breakfast. Sad.
