In honor of Travel and Escapes month here at Apartment Therapy, we thought we would share another great stop for those looking for a fun and stylish hotel that won't break the bank. With rooms starting around $100, the Thunderbird Inn in Savannah, Georgia is much less expensive than many other options, and is a slightly modern, slightly retro alternative to your standard cheap hotel fare.
Savannah is one of our favorite cities to visit, and is chock full of history, parks, and Southern charm in general. Touted as Savannah's "classic roadside motel," this 43 room stop was built in 1964. Now totally renovated, they offer a great central downtown location within walking distance of much of the city. The Thunderbird Inn was at least $50 less than all other options available to us when we visited, often significantly cheaper. That, and they have really cute travel sized shampoos, lotions, and facewash!

I can vouch for this one. It's a very nice place and THE best deal in the area. The owners are fantastic, plus they they're locals!
I used to live over by the Thunderbird when it was um... not so nice. That was 7 years ago and they've vastly improved that area since then. It's surrounded by much pricier hotels now. If you want to visit Savannah, but don't want to stay in a chain hotel or pay $$$$ for a B&B (which are incredible, but pricey). Thanks for posting this!!!

I loved this place!!! I never actually stayed there but went to school in Savannah and heard great things about the renovation. I always like seeing the sign at night driving through Savannah. It's a (semi) great location, convenient to walk to downtown. Just don't go west of where the Thunderbird is and don't go to the convenient stores near by late at night. Other wise a great place to stay!

The place was crash when I lived there. I'm glad to see it's been renovated back to it's mid century modern appeal.
