Turquoise and Blue in A Kitchen

01_05.05.09_Kitchens.jpgAs much as we love simplicity, a kitchen is the one room in the house where we like to see more color. Lately we have been drawn to turquoise and blue kitchen interiors. They seem like unlikely choices, but it works. From pale to deeper and richer shades of the two colors, the effect is quite unusual. More photos after the jump...

The kitchen in the first photo is from a portfolio of Paul Raeside. We love the color of these cabinets!

I'm sorry, but blue is just not an appetizing color for me, not a single shade of it. Perhaps the subtle blue value of a nice soapstone countertop, but that's about it.

I agree with Jamiealyse, the use of vintage-style cabinets in a modern arrangement is a really nice touch.

The last image strikes me as looking awfully fresh for being 50 years old. That's a *huge* cooktop!

*snap* I knew #6 was Swedish. It looks just like an update of my grandparents' kitchen, which was built in the early '50s. Pure nostalgia.

I like numbers 1 and 6, too. I didn't think I was all that into blue for a kitchen until I inherited some great vintage textiles and ceramics. Now it seems like a given.
As an added bonus...they say that calming blue in the kitchen is good for people who want to eat less. Probably good for anxious cooks, too!

Thank you for posting some fun, colorful kitchens! I get so tired of seeing the same old boring cherry cabinets, granite counters, everything neutral kitchens. I esp. love #s 1, 4 and 6.

Love this - we have a turquoise kitchen - and while I will always still love a classic, white kitchen, I smile every time I walk into cheery, turquoise one :o) Turquoise walls AND counter tops:

For some reason, Turquoise seems to be a color made for a kitchen...
...but the blue and lavender - Not so much.

Oh, #2 all the way. I love the metal locker-style cabinets, and the color is great - muted enough that it wouldn't get old.
