• The first row of photos shows a kitchen inspired by fifties design and the patterns and concepts of quilting. We love that has a kind of retro feel without being kitschy. The layering of patterns and textures makes the kitchen chic, warm, and comfortable all at once.
• The farmhouse kitchen in the second row of photos was designed by Halling for a Swedish TV show. Of course the bones of the room are amazing (exposed beams!!), but the creative details really make the design. Look closely to find the hand-painted trim on the cabinets. The dining table is made of old floorboards, and it looks like Halling used a broken spring from an upholstered chair as a photo and message center.
See more of Isabelle Halling's lovely work on her site.

OMG, my grandparents had those kitchen chairs. So funny seeing them as an example of a fashionable interior. Of course, they had covered the seat in pink vinyl to match their pink and powder blue kitchen.

Love her work. Remodelista did a great "steal this look" of one of her kitchens last week. Check it out:

What is that coiled bulletin board - mattress springs? Cool!

info on the green light over the table in the first photo. I love it.

I like the second kitchen a lot. There's something depressing about the first kitchen, though. Maybe it's the drab gray-green color of the cabinets.

heather77 I found the first one depressing too.
Love the second one, dreamy..are those zinc counters?? very European I stayed in a house in Italy that had all zinc counters with rustic wood cabinets that were reclaimed from old barns with the top of the line huge burner stove and oven, fireplace and with a big table with a tone of cookbooks I did not want to leave that kitchen I still cry when I think about it.

I absolutely love both of these kitchens! They both show so much personality and the personal style of the owners.
@123amy, I wonder if it's the coils from an ottoman or something? It's such a perfect size!
