Unexpected Subtlety: Marble Table Tops

We don't naturally gravitate to marble, since its effect can often be so dramatic, even over-the-top. But lately we've been seeing some gorgeously subtle examples of marble used as a dining table top, and we have to wonder whether we haven't sold this lovely look short in the past...

A simple, subtly veined marble slab can be beautiful for an extra-long dining table, especially in a room where whites and grays dominate, with pops of color. Marble is a gorgeous choice, among many, for the top of the ever-popular Saarinen tulip table as well. And we love it in contrast with a dark wood pedestal.

Marble surfaces in high-use areas can pose problems; they can be difficult to clean, and marble scratches easily. But for a dining table, we actually like the idea of a marble slab that wears down over time.

What do you think? Is this a look you can get next to?

Absolutely cozy up to a marble table! Especially if it is done in honed Carrera, large scale, country kitchen. Reminds me of the big tables candy makers are so fond of...

Love 'em, and the simpler they are, the better.

the problem with marble topped dinning tables is that they soak up stains! even cheetos crumbs will discolor the marble! so, it's a no for me.
