SF Good Questions: Recommendations for Chair Reupholsterers

1-23-chair2.jpgAT:SF,

Do you have any good recommendations for chair reupholsters in the SF/Peninsula area? I have a beautiful high back chair whose purple velvet just isn't a match in our new Eichler. I got inspired by Mood Fabrics and have a few choices picked out, but no good local resources to revamp my chair. Do you have any suggestions?

Angela,

We don't personally have experience with any SF or South Bay upholsterers, but can recommend one in the East Bay. Kay Chesterfield Co. in Oakland is a full service upholstery shop located by the Oakland Coliseum, and we've had several great experiences with them. Look for a full post on the shop in the next few weeks.

We've also heard good things about Riita Herwitz, who is located in Pacifica.

Of course, we always recommend looking through our archives, these things sometimes come up in comments and other good questions.

Any other suggestions for Angela?

Hi Angela:
Which Eichler tract are you in? We just moved into our Eichler this past weekend (we're in the Rancho Verde tract in Sunnyvale). Very exciting!

You might want to give Lou Villar at Villar Restorations a shout. Room&Board had Lou do some repair work (not reupholstering though) on our sectional. He did a great job. If I am not wrong, the San Francisco Room&Board contracts out a lot of their furniture repair work to Villar Restorations.

When I worked at I.Magnin we would use Kay Upholstery in Oakland for all the furniture. They have been around forever and will give you a free quote. Not sure what their fabric selection is like lately, but you can always buy your own.

I used Chiosso Brothers in SF. I had a great experience with John, and the price was right. 415-431-5444
