apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Bold Red Wallpaper

It is such a nice surprise when walking into a friend's house for the first time to be greeted with a burst of bold color. Many of us have always toyed with the idea but when it comes down to actually doing it, we usually chicken out. The bathroom is a good place to start if you want to ease in gently but be careful, color is contagious and you will likely want more and more...

Here are a few to get you started:

1 - Flavor Paper (Color: Fire Red)

2 - Nina Campbell - Cypress (#NCW3834)

3 - Eijffinger - Cadence (#360322)

4 - KK Delight - (Code: KKDELCHE)

5 - Decor Maison - (Imagine #1432)

I'm likely in the minority here, but I'm not enjoying the return of wall paper and patterned walls. Maybe it's becuase I am still removing 80's wallpaper from my home.... maybe it's from frightening memories of psychodelic yellow floral wallpaper in my mother's kitchen as a child, or the freaky bird paper she had in the bathroom.... At any rate, in my personal experience, wallpaper is more often than not visually distracting and unappealing.

I forsee anotherwhite phase in our futures... (similar to when everyone painted their walls white in the late 80's)... a natural detox from all of the hyper coloring and patterning of rooms that is going on now, as it did in the late 60's and 70's.

You're not alone- while I've seen some DARLING wallpapers that I love (some, mind you), we just bought a house & the first thing we did was remove 1 wall of wp & a border around the kitchen/dining. It wasn't even that much compared to some people, but after that, I have NO desire to put up new wallpaper. I'd rather stencil/paint the design on if I want it that much!!

I agree with the comments above. It always looks appetizing in pictures, but in homes it really has to be thought out and usually is not. I think if you have a large enough home where you could do just one wall with some fabulous and expensive paper it would be nice, like instead of hanging a piece of art. But most of the time it only looks good in photos.

I am happy about the return of the wallpapers. It is not wallpapers that is often the problem but more the way it was designed. Putting 4 walls of wallpapers is too much of a good thing. You will get tired of it pretty quickly. One or two walls at the top gives a room the right amount of punch.

By the way, I like the Flavor wallpaper but you need the right balance in the space to make it works.

Not a fan of wallpaper at all. I'm also someone who's tired of removing dated and worn wallpaper.
