Martin Tessler: That's Not Wallpaper

0512_tessler01.jpg

Today's breath of fresh air over at Apartment Therapy Boston, House Tour: The Deaners' Fresh Start in Little Rhody, left us totally inspired. This afternoon, after viewing and re-viewing the tour, we saw the completely unrelated photo up top by Vancouver shelter mag photographer, Martin Tessler. It reminded us of what inspired that wallpaper in The Deaners' washroom...

A grove of aspen trees! What beauty it beholds, and what a wonderful modern home with a window wall looking right out on the real deal. To our city-dwelling eyes, unaccustomed to a house in the woods, Tessler's shot instantly reminded us of the wallpaper (sad, isn't it?). Makes us love aspen wallpaper prints with renewed interest, and long for a view on the real thing even more.

Reminds me of my time as a child when we were living on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan...

...the snow and paper-birch trees were so pretty in the winter.

I'm also reminded of my childhood--in NH. This exact type of scene inspired my "Birches" continuing series of paintings of birches in the snow.

If I had a view like that....my chairs would be turned the other way. This is so beautiful.
