Sheer Linen Window Panels from West Elm

4-30-linensheers.jpgSummer and warm weather requires a change of curtains in our house - away goes the heavy winter canvas and in comes the summer linen. Like the majority of Bay Area residents we don't have air conditioning, and we've discovered that keeping cool means thinking cool, and linen sheers always make a room feel cooler to us. One of our favorite curtain resources is West Elm - their sheer linen window panels in particular are reasonably priced and come in a wide range of lengths.

Currently available in four colors for $24-$44 a panel, depending on length, at West Elm.

Lovely! I wish it worked in my place... Not complaining or anything but I have way too much sun in both bedrooms. Does anyone have the same problem? How do you deal with it? Keep the heavy curtains all year round?

Its a shame that the West Elm curtain panels are so narrow - only 48" wide finished - leaving wider windows looking skimpy.

You could get 57" wide linen fabric for as little as $7.30/yard and make your own panels - Use some iron-on hemming strips and you wouldn't even have to sew!

I love the pretty grey colour- I might have to consider these for our new loft that has more windows than our old one!

In reference to the first commenter, your problem is a common one... if you'd like to use lighter curtains on windows that get a lot of sun, you might consider having the windows tinted. This can greatly reduce the heat and light that penetrates the window and with a light curtain up, still gives the room a light feel. As an alternative, you could put up solar shades to get the same effect (without the permanence of the tinting).

Best of luck.

danze - It's amazing how well I've adjusted from needing to sleep in a pitch black room to being able to sleep in blinding sunlight. Some things you just get used to. I definitely have the brightest room in the house but I treasure it. I always feel so good walking into my room because it's so sunny and cheery!

The problem with that kind of "rod" (that is... wire?) is that even in that photo shown you can see that it sort of sags.
