apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Winfrey Decorator Nate Berkus Coming to S.F.
San Francisco Chronicle: 10.18.08

10-21-chron.jpgThis weekend Nate Berkus will be in San Francisco, hosting two seminars for the O You! The Oprah magazine event. Anh-Minh talked to him for an article in Saturday's Chronicle. What did she find out from the California native-turned-Chicago-designer? Well, for starters, Apartment Therapy is one of his online design picks for inspiration...

Berkus says, "You can see how people are living,"... "It's a fantastic resource because there's a lot of ingenuity and creativity on any budget." The posts that show fresh color combinations and space-saving solutions are especially useful.

He also talks about fads, how to freshen up a room, and his own design style.

Thank you Seaside. Beat me to it.

The article in one of the most recent shelter mags was interesting. He is not my favorite designer, but I do like some of his work.

I don't get quiltmaster's comment!

I feel bad that he's so short.
If he was 6'4" he'd be a fully-complete fox.

Naaaaaaaaate! If I was going to hire a designer, it would be him. I'm not a big Oprah fan, but I read O at Home strictly for Nate.

I don't care about his height or what team he bats for, he's still hot. I want him to be my gay boyfriend.

I love all things Nate. His design and personal decor is what inspired the look of my home. I also have a lot of his collection that he came out with.

He is adorable, I see no flaws :)

Nate could come decorate my house any time he want to
come and visit Vegas. I'd love it. I think he is great and enjoy any time I catch him on Oprah. Thanks Nate.

Yes, he is dating shoe designer Brian Atwood, and in the interview below, he said he would settle down and marry if it were possible:

I'm sure they would have an incredibly designed home together.

Thanks for posting that interview, Kenneth. I'm glad Nate has found someone. I worried after Fernando's death he might not be able to move on.

Was that comment for me? I was being sarcastic (shocking, I know!).

How do you guys know so much about his life? Who was Fernando? How did he die? I really don't want to think what I'm thinking .

Snugglitas,
Nate has discussed some of his personal life on Oprah's show. Fernando was his lover/partner. They were vacationing a few years ago in southeast Asia (sorry, I forgot the exact country) when that huge Tsunami struck and Fernando was washed away like so many others before Nate's eyes.

Snugglitas--

Gay men die of MANY things, not just (perhaps) "what you were thinking."

Fernando was a very well-respected and very talented interior photographer. Many of the US shelter mags made mention of his passing in the tsunami as jimkk mentioned.

No, the comment was for "these roving eyes"! Yours was funny. I must have gotten up to do something and you posted before I saw it.
