How many apartments do you know that have a room solely devoted to a home office? We're drawing a blank, but in most cases a desk and chair will do just fine, and can fit in even the smallest of spaces.

The AT archives has a plethora of inspiring shots of such arrangements, along with helpful tips for creating you own work nook at home, no matter how small your apartment. Perhaps this will be the push we need to move away from the dreaded dining table/home office combo...

I love all of those offices and I can definately relate to small space office...

Do you any have recommendations for a place to buy a small inexpensive desk?
(I am looking for something that will hold my laptop and then leave a bit more space, but not much more.)

Whoa! Are those RCA Building/Rockefeller Center calendars in the first photo? There's a black one and a white one on that desk. Please provide some info. on those, I've got goosebumps just thinking about them!

Yuppie--dare I say Ikea? My office is in the entryway of our apartment, and I bought a very small table top from Ikea for about $20. I paired them with legs from Ikea that I already had from the previous table we made.

Hi Julia,
I frequently browse the Ikea website. May I ask which desk (top) you got? How sturdy is it?

I created a small office in a small closet in my...office! We use the room that was designed to be an office for a music room. You can look right into it through a glass panel in our front door. We don't want all of the strangers who walk up to our house to put junk advertisements on the door looking in and getting a tempting glimpse of the computer, bills, and other financial information right there. So, I wedged a long skinny folding table and a small rolling chair in the closet, and then added a shoe organizer with office supplies over the inside of the door and hung labeled clipboards on the back wall to hold bills, correspondence, etc. Two rolling file boxes are pushed into the corner of the closet, under the table. Right now it's kind of utilitarian and ugly; I need to add some color, but it gets the job done.

I love the idea. My problem is that we have a regular desktop computer complete with ugly speakers and router boxes. I would love to see more pictures with larger computers to see how that problem is handled. But super cute, especially the second one.

ive been looking to use elfa to make an office space on an empty wall for a while now.. problem is, the finish i want is the most expensive of them all, in bamboo veneer. is there anything cheaper but just as nice and sturdy as elfa??

I love the fist photo. That chair is really neat. We turned the closet in our den into a pocket office. See pictures of it here:

Its a space saver and cost us very little. Plus, the chair we have slides under the built-in desk and we can close the doors when not in use.

Hey Abby-Sue, I have the same problem as you. There are computer desks on the market that have a panel built across the back to help hide wires. Staples and Office Depot for sure, but I got my small one at Ikea....the older model of the Mikael desk . Then the best thing to do is figure a way to attach your strip outlet to the back of this panel, so everything is truly hidden. I used brackets and a nylon strip to hold it all up. you can only see the one wire of the strip outlet heading to the wall, and barely!

True home offices seem to be for people whose kids have moved out. I don't know a single 50 couple who DOESN'T have a dedicated home office. But me, I work in bed on a laptop -- I don't even have room for a desk.

A friend of mine found the answer to the source of this lamp. It's called The Beep and can be found at the Conran Shop UK. Or at least you could in 2006.
