Name: Shannon and Alicia
Location: San Francisco, California
Perched atop a sunny corner in San Francisco's busy Castro neighborhood overlooking both mountains and cityscapes, Shannon & Alicia's two-bedroom, deceptively Victorian flat is bright, spacious and, as their friends attest at every dinner party, a former dump.
After renting the boxy, cramped one-bedroom apartment on the bottom floor for two years, Shannon and Alicia's upstairs neighbors finally moved out, leaving behind a ramshackle but spacious diamond in the rough. After convincing the landlord of Shannon's mad interior design skills, he agreed to let them rent at a lower rate in return for taking the place in as-is condition and sprucing it up on their own dime. Pink laminate countertops, moldy shower, faulty switches and all.
After numerous coats of paint, undoing what had haphazardly been done years before, and hovering acrobatically over the hallway staircase to reach that tiny little corner, they finally have their dream rental. What Shannon and Alicia saw beneath the hanging light fixture sockets and broken everything was rental potential. And laundry. And views. And plenty of space to call their home, no matter the price.

really like the corner windows.. nice.. i would also like to know the story behind the 'shade' with written words on it..
Very lovely place. Love the wall colors. Also need to know story behind shade.
wow, I kind of love everything about this!
LOVE the coffee table in the first photo. Where is it from?
love this because it is the "finished" product of where I am trying to head with my space...instruments on the wall and all!! I had a picture in my head but this completes it! Thanks AT
Another vote for the story behind the shade.
The place looks great; love the views.
@residentgeek - the shade is one of the items from a series called "the thing" by Miranda July (the woman behind 'you me and everyone we know' and 'the future')
I love all your paint colours.
Very, very pretty.
I am loving the window treatment in the "window corner". Beautiful drapes finshed with a box valance. Perfect. I'd love to see a house tour!
I love the magenta and apple green -- what a great color combo!
Love this house! Cozy and interesting, but not too much "stuff"
house tour please!!
would love to know the paint colour in the living room (first photo). Thanks!
I love the story behind how they made the place to beautiful too. House tour!
Very cool. Looks super cozy and fun. Dig the Small Stakes posters. Actually, I haven't surfed for SS lately. So, just now, I did a quick search and ended up finally getting one of his prints - http://jasonmunn.com/poster.php?name=Biker
I agree that a House Tour is in order.
Thanks for sharing!
Britwash, the coffee table looks like one that was sold by West Elm, the Top-Drawer coffee table.
i'm saving this post - so many things i love about it - stylish and comfy just my style!
Love! Also noticed the little Hercules guitar hanger. I have two of those - SUCH a space saver in a small space, and also an instrument saver when pets or kids or clumsy people like me are around. :)
This must be East Elm.
I love the guitar on the wall. What a great use of space!
Totally love this bright airy beautiful home. Yes, a tour is most wanted.
Please tell me where I can buy that shade?
As their neighbor, I too think Shannon and Alicia should get a house tour. It's a really lovely place!
House tour please!
Very nice!
I live in SF and these folks must be making some serious cash because rent in SF is out of reach for most.
Renting a ROOM can run you $1000.00 a month..A ROOM FOLKS.
But SF is beautiful in the right areas. Some areas, as with most big cities can be down right frightful.
Gentrification first the hippies then the gays 2 male incomes, then high tech have rendered my hometown a very very difficult place to live. Not just expensive but difficult for those of us raised there in 50s and 60s. I left in 1972 and return often I don't know about any frightful places. The formerly "frightful" places -the Fillmore, the Mission and Hunters point are mostly gentrified beyond recognition. In the Castro the nude sidewalk dining is frightful and disgusting by my standards but beyond that gentrification rules.
