Container City was created by developers who arranged 50 shipping containers to create courtyards, alleys and streets on a 48,500 sq ft plot of land. These brightly painted containers have been transformed into eco-friendly apartments, restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, and an open public area with ping pong tables. It is a lively gathering place with lots of music and events. Container City is open Monday thru Saturday from 10am-8pm and Sundays from 11am-6pm.

This is beautiful! Makes me want to build with shipping containers in my backyard... if I can bring the Mexican sun to Vermont.
does anyone know where i can get those chairs???
Yes, please--MUST know about those chairs. Must have at least three in assorted colors.
Those chairs are fab! Must have!!
sally305 and TAmom-check out www.innitimported.com for these chairs. A guy dropped off his biz card at the furniture store I work at, that just so happens to sell these chairs!
oh, gasp!
As sculpture, those chairs are awesome, but I wonder if they would be comfortable (similar to Bertoia chairs - would they leave an imprint on your tush)? Also, I'm not loving the hole at the bottom - sort of toilet-like. But they sure are cool-looking.
They are comfy chairs, but yeah, they leave marks on you if you're wearing shorts or a bathing suit. They are everywhere in Mexican beach towns and villages and I bought some for my friends' courtyard. (She lives in Mexico.) They were about $15 a pop, used.
those chairs are very comfortable. while they are considered "peasant chairs" in mexico, and are very cheap there, they go for around $375 each in los angeles. i was lucky enough to get some for much less in palm springs, but, as i understand it, they go for at least $300 in the states.
they sell them at pot-ted on los feliz blvd at www.pot-ted.com
I thought about trying to bring some home, but the logistics seemed ridiculous, as I was flying home to Canada. :(
I've been meaning to get some of these chairs, but the price in LA is ridiculous. It would be cheaper to drive down to cabo pay 40 bucks for a couple, and drive back. Which hopefully I will do soon. :-)
@calamityayne: Larger mexican cities should have no problem shipping these to Canada via the usual carrier (fed-ex/ups/freight). Hotels in the area might be able to point you in the right direction.
Don't they get really hot? For the people living in them, do they have to keep their doors open all the time to avoid heating up too much?
These are really wonderful!
There is no problem shipping from Mexico to Canada or US. There are quit a few shipping hubs in many large and small towns, I have had numerous items shipped from D.F, San Miguel and Puebla.
These chairs are very beautiful too-

saventaro, thank you!!
I love this. In Manila there is a shopping area built of containers as well, an extension of the Filipino "recycle everything" style. The first time I saw it I thought it was such a great concept.
I must say that it was nice to see a place that I actually have been at posted on AT.
Just to get some things straight, all the containers at this point are intended as bars, shops, or restaurants, none of them are offered for living on them, I don't really know if the developers are going to make a second "part" of the project and sell or rent them as houses.
@apf: They do get hot but, like I said, they're all shops or stuff like that, so the owners keep them open all day long.
Also the part of the ping pong tables is not true lol. Nevertheless it is a nice place to party at, there's a great rock band that plays on Taxi Bar called "Los Guacamole". Takes me back to my college days.
Thanks Jose A! Unfortunately I am usually in Palenque or tiny Oaxacan beach towns without a vehicle! But where there's a will, there's a way...Man, I love Mexico! I wanna go right now, especially considering the blizzard I'm in in Winnipeg. :)
