Not to open up the whole Shoes On, Shoes Off debate again, but we rounded up a few ideas for where to keep those shoes if you do take them off. It is winter after all.
The new year has inspired us to spruce up our entryway. We're kind of tired of tripping over our shoes and hitting our stroller cup holder on the door every time we try to get in and out.
So, first we're tackling a better place for shoes:
• 1 How to Make a Closet into a Mudroom
• 3 DIY Shoe Rack

I took the double doors off my hallway closet and made it into a small mudroom. I LOVE IT. I put up a bunch of hooks, a bench with some baskets for shoes, etc. My guests really like it... coats actually get hung up instead of draped all over chairs. It's a neat little nook, way better than a dark cluttered closet.
We recently organized our narrow hallway to make space for shoes, coats, etc. We bought the HEMNES shoe storage cabinets from IKEA and now the kids love having their own "cubbies" to put their shoes in. We also use the drawers for mittens, scarfs, hats, and more. Next to the cabinets we hung a coat rack at the children's level and now their jackets have a home rather than being thrown on the ground.

We've got nothing nearly that fancy, just an old towel folded up by the door to absorb some of the New England snow.
I'm still trying to train my husband into taking them off. He means to, but it slips his mind. I hate walking on wet patches of melted snow with my bare feet!
I use a thrifted dresser in our entryway.
I put a yankee candle wax melt(wrapped, of course) in each drawer to keep the stink away, and keep the drawer bottoms lined with non-slip, and voila!
I love the neat and tidy entrances in the photos. Our house looks a bit more frazzled.../Users/amymacmillan/Desktop/shoes2.jpg
