The internet-based retail store was created by Adam Zeisel to offer the high-end quality furniture and collectibles designed by his grandmother, the reknowned Hungarian-born artist Eva Zeisel. Her distinctive fluid designs, which grace the collections of many museums, are as modern today as when they were created.
Hungarian-born industrial artist Eva Zeisel was one of the masters of midcentury modernism and her work has a distinctive organic and timeless sensuality. While she's perhaps best known for her work in ceramics, she also designed furniture, rugs, and home accessories. Though pieces can be purchased at places like Crate & Barrel and Design Within Reach, the online retail store Eva Zeisel Originals, which was launched by her grandson, Adam, offers the complete line of Century and 101 ceramics, her iconic tableware, as well as furniture and home accessories.
Name/Title: Eva Zeisel Originals
Launch date: March 2006
Inspiration for opening: The internet-based retail store was created by Adam Zeisel to offer the high-end quality furniture and collectibles designed by his grandmother, the renowned Hungarian-born mid-century artist Eva Zeisel. Her distinctive fluid designs, which grace the collections of many museums, are as modern today as they were when they were created.
Merchandise source: Everything that is sold at the store was designed by Eva Zeisel and is manufactured to her design specifications: the furniture is made in Canada; the brass candlesticks in India; the jewelry trees are made in the US; the bird-shaped ceramic pieces are made in Italy; and, the tableware is made in England
Best selling item: the candlesticks sell the most, the coffee table is our most successful and the classic Century collection continues to gather steam as current owners add pieces and replace broken pieces and it draws new fans all the time.
Your favorite item: My favorite item is the one in my hands at any given time (Editor's note: Spoken like a man who loves his grandmother!)
Favorite store (other than your own): Right now I'd have to say Rebekah Brooks. It's a handmade jewelry company. I'm in the midst of planning for my wedding and this store has fantastic pieces and the staff are amazing.
