Now that I've got that great big patio to dream about, I've found myself scouring the web for ideas on how to set it up, and for creative pieces to spark some inspiration. Though the furniture above is certainly out of my price range (and shipping range) for a temporary home, it does serve as an reminder of how fabulous an outdoor space can be. These designers have taken ordinary materials and turned them into an extraordinary marriage of form, function, and fun.

The Chaise Lawn by U.S. designer Deger Cengiz is described as "an alive chaise lounge, a mobile garden, human transporter, outdoor art." The chair comes complete with grass seeds and is currently on display at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City. $750

The Sifel Chaise by French designer Caroline Corbeau pays hommage to Gustave Eiffel through fine laser cut stainless steel construction and geometric forms. Each piece is hand-crafted outside Paris, and the chair comes in three finishes: ´╗┐matte black, laquer red, and natural aluminum. Interior version - €600, Outdoor version €750

The Trellis Bench by U.S. designer Damian Barton is inspired by the mathematical paraboloid structure. According to the designer, "the hyperbolic paraboloid uses only staight components (ruled surface) to create a curved structural surface in three dimensions." Made of UV nylon stretched over an aluminum frame, the piece manages to look both structural and inviting. $4,200

The Missing Table And Chairs by Italian designer Nobody&co is a collection of seven chairs each missing a different piece of the structure; mixed together, they form new and interesting pieces. The collection is made of iron tubular structure lacquered white for external use. €2,870 for collection of 7 chairs, €1,860 for the table

The classic curves of the Ionic Bench by U.S. designer Laurie Beckerman give the idea of a wooden bench a new and modern twist. The silhouette is cut from one inch thick Baltic Birch plywood 18 times using computer controlled saws, then the slices are laminated together to form this light yet sturdy bench. $3,900
