Handmade Magnetic Wood Tiles
Matt & Giovanna Taylor
Founded by Matt & Giovanna Taylor in late 2012, Moonish is based in Brooklyn. They are known for their handmade magnetic wood tiles that are dyed and silkscreened on marine grade plywood. The tiles combine the geometries of traditional tiles with the warmth of wood.
1977 - Triangles Wall Tiles
Moonish wall tiles are handmade in New York. The production takes place in Garnerville, where some of the process is subcontracted to a local woodworker, and the Moonish studio in Greenpoint Brooklyn, where the design and printing take place. All of the plywood they use is sourced from FSC compliant supplies, and because it is marine grade, there is no added urea formaldehyde like most inexpensive plywood contain. The tiles are silkscreened with water based pigments, and are finished with a water based acrylic finish, either glossy or matte.
Moonish plywood "tiles" can be applied to any smooth level surface. They can compose a wall or ceiling size mosaic, or they can be used for smaller projects like headboards or trim. Once installed the tiles can be rearranged on their steel stickers to make alternate designs. Each box contains a set of 36 tiles and covers an area of 9 sq ft. Prices range from $198-257 per box box depending on the design you choose.
