When we got a peek into Alex’s U Street Corridor apartment last summer, the reader response was overwhelmingly positive. This DC resident pairs a keen eye for low price, high quality antiques with an intrepid use of color. While you might not be as bold in your paint choices, one way to get a similar look to Alex's is perusing the vintage items on Etsy.
Shown above, left to right:
1. In his bedroom, which has the airiest feel in the apartment, Alex’s classic wooden dresser boasts a beautiful, oversized artichoke lamp.
2. These vintage lamps ($100 for two) from Etsy seller DuchessFare are diminutive in comparison to Alex’s, but they make a similar statement.
3. Vintage portraits, decanters, and stacked suitcases give the bar corner a lived-in, quirky yet classy feel.
4. To start building a collection of decanters, try an inexpensive pair ($14.50) from TheLovelys.
5. Complement your new cut glass with a beautifully worn suitcase ($50) from LittleByrdVintage.

Whew, $140 (including shipping) for those two little lamps! That's really steep.
I recognize that little figurine on the tray in the first photo. Alex went to the National Geographic Musum's Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit, didn't he? :) We have one too.
the last etsy shop recommended 'fabulous mess' is NOT 'low price' like this post is trying to spotlight.
$495 is not an amt i would spend on ANYTHING unless it's a long term purchase such as a sofa or a bed.
for anyone needing inspiration for their 'granny chic' (which is a terrible term for a style that i use at home) style, check out local flea markets/vintage shops, local thrift stores, estate sales, auctions and etsy shops based on ratings/pricing.
this particular 'style' is not for someone with lots of money to throw around.
I am with thorndale, how about calling it eclectic vintage chic or these old pieces look new again chic.
I just bought this from esty for a excellent price, been wanting something interesting to hold flowers in and since I already have some bitossi pieces it works. I rarely buy anything new anymore-

I just thought I was getting a handle on what Granny Chic is supposed to mean. That said, I'm totally thrown off by the third picture which isn't at all what I thought GC was supposed to be about.
I guess it's all relative, but I think $150 for TWO lamps is a pretty good price!
Etsy is NOT the place to look for cheap ...well, anything....your best bet would be to check out your local Goodwill or Salvation Army shop. I'm not saying that there are no deals on Etsy, but you would be better off at the thrift store, since you wouldn't have to pay for shipping. I also think that $100 for those two tiny lamps is too much.
I've found a lot of great stuff at flea markets, thrift shops and Goodwill's, like today I found the same lamp featured in Lonny Magazine in the home of Callie Jenschke for 10 dollars!
