Hang-It-All Coat Rack by Charles and Ray Eames
• $199

I've been looking at this classic coat rack for awhile, slowly liking it more and more as it's funky, balls of color have begun to look fresh instead of old fashioned. The secret, in my mind, is to NEVER install just one. One by itself looks puny and incomplete. These want to be hung in a series of two or more (more!), which gives them a much more surprising (and useful) role in the home. This pic shows it well.

I want to get one of these, but now I have to get two?! I suppose you're quite right, though.

Actually--generally yes--I'd say two. But I got just one, hung it on a small piece of wall at kid's height and my daughters LOVE to hang their coats and bags there. I adore the Hang-It-All!!!
AGREE! I've always assumed that when I finally purchase one, I'd actually have to get multiple. One alone looks a little bit sad and lonely... but several together look full and fun and pop against a white wall as an art piece with or without hats and coats.
I love these too but spending 400 bucks on something to hang up coats and bags seems a a little silly
I know the Eames Hang-It -All is a design classic, but really, why hasn't anybody posted a DIY version? Would that be sacriligious? (Sorry, I love it, and would love to buy one for my daughter's first apartment, but wow, sticker shock.)
I have one and LOVE it but often look at it and think how much nicer it would be if I had two...
I hope I am not the only one who couldn't imagine owning this piece .. it just isn't my cup of tea. That said, it doesn't look /as/ bad if there are multiple, like in the photo.
For those who don't think the multi colored version would go well in their decor, there is also a really sleek walnut version with a darker frame.
Bet it would be sooooo easy to make and custom color, think gold or silver balls on the ends or color the board to match a decor or the wall color. Just start imagining!!
