Hiroshima Sofa by Naoto Fukasawa
• $4,700
• Mjolk
Looking around for some clean, simple inspiration and aspiration on this cold winter night, I found myself enjoying the end of Mjolk's cottage reno up in Canada. I hope to meet this couple some time, and love their choices and all the effort and sweat they've put into their home.
This sofa is a lovely example of their perspective and pairing a Japanese design with a Canadian/Scandinavian sensibility. This is Fukasawa's "Madmen-esque" modern sofa, which comes in a number of different fabrics and leg choices. These are beech legs, and the fabric looks like it could be a blue Italian linen.

At first glance I thought it was an Ikea couch. I am curious to know how this sofa is manufactured, what are the guts like, that will ensure that for almost $5k this sofa will last for more than 7 years? I know nothing about this brand of sofa and am always on the hunt for durable, non-disposable sofas.
@thorndale: we looked for ages for a sofa. we loved the size/shape of the ikea karlstad sofa, but its ikea-ness (3 year lifespan) kept us away. we discovered a sofa made by eilersen that was a very similar shape and the build-quality is incredible. http://www.eilersen.eu/#/products/classic/slice/sofa
